Diskusi "Berani karena Boleh: Film B Indonesia dan pendekatan New Cinema History"

Sabtu, 20 Juli, 17.00     Donasi Sukarela

Kineforum, TIM, Jakarta.

Mari berbincang!

Pengampu:
- Ekky Imanjaya, dosen prodi film Binus University
- Dennis Adishwara, founder Layaria Network dan penikmat B(adass) movies

"Bohemian Rhapsody" dan Sinema yang Magis

Demam film “Bohemian Rhapsody” melanda Indonesia.
Karena..it’s a kind of magic.

Cinema Poetica just republished my old paper. Here's the story behind it

Cinema Poetica just republished my old article--and they added it with great pictures!
link:  http://cinemapoetica.com/the-other-side-of-indonesia-new-orders-indonesian-exploitation-cinema-as-cult-films/
source: Cinema Poetica
I presented this paper in "B for Bad Movies" conference at Monash University, Melbourne, 15-17 April 2009, the very first academic conference i ever attended as a panelist. I just graduated from my master study at Universiteit van Amsterdam, and this paper was initially my final project of one of the modules. Being the new kid in  academia world,  i went there as  a film  critic from RumahFilm.org  and was  not really familiar with the idea of cult, exploitation, and b-movies and did not realize that there were so many Big Names in that very conference (as shown in this wonderful program  http://artsonline.monash.edu.au/film-culture/files/2012/09/program-b-for-bad-cinema-2.pdf).

I was in a panel with  David Hanan (who presented a paper on Benyamin Sueb), one of the leading scholars on Indonesian Cinema. I even visited his house and saw his great Indonesia film collection (including the rare ones).
and I met new friends,  including Sun Jung (who visited Jakarta for her Korea and Fandom research) and  Ramon Lobato (who later published a great book, Shadows Economy of Cinema).

Here's the program: http://artsonline.monash.edu.au/film-culture/files/2012/09/program-b-for-bad-cinema-2.pdf

some of the papers were published in Colloquy journal (including this artice): http://artsonline.monash.edu.au/colloquy/432/
Some other were published in an edited collection.
And in 2012 I started to have a deeper research on this topic for  my PhD study.

Ah, time flies.
Oh ya, during the conference, i flew to Canberra for my very first public talk at Australian National University. I was invited by Prof. Ariel Heryanto. to present a paper titled "
The Anomalous Islamic Movies  and other Recent Issues on Representation of
Muslim World in Post-New Order Indonesian Cinema"

Trailers and Excerpts from "Crazy Indonesia" movies

Hello :)

I just started my research 3 weeks ago, and I am so excited about it!
Just to give you the pictures about the research I am doing, here's some examples of trailers and clips about the films.  Basically, the movies i want to analyse are not just Indonesian B movies or Exploitation Films. But, those with international distribution (VHS, DVD, VCD, Betamax; by MondomacabroDVD, Troma Entertainment, Brentwood Home Video, etc) and dubbed into English.  Some Western cult-fan boys label those kinds of movies as "Crazy Indonesia". Do you agree with them?

 1979       Primitives (Primitif), Sisworo Gautama

1979      Queen of Black Magic (Ratu Ilmu Hitam) , Liliek Sudjio

1979       Special Silencers (Serbuan Halilintar),  Arizal

1981       Mystics in Bali    Mistik  (Punahnya Rahasia Ilmu Iblis Leak),  H. Tjut Djalil

1982       Satan's Slave, (Pengabdi Setan), , Sisworo Gautama Putra
