Dokumenter panjang “Suzzanna : The Queen of Black Magic” (David Gregory, 2024) akan premiere di Sitges Film Festival, pada 12 Oktober 2024.
Film ini juga terdapat dalam boxset “All The Haunts Be Ours: A Compendium Of Folk Horror Vol. 2 [13-Disc Blu-ray Box Set + Hardcover Book] yang sedang dalam tahap pre-order. Di Kumpulan 13 disc ini, documenter tersebut akan double bill dengan film Suzanna, “Sundel Bolong” (Sisworo Gautama Putra, 1981).
Film produksi Severin Films ini juga melibatkan kru dari Indonesia, tim Jakarta dan tim Jogja/Magelang, dan Ekky Imanjaya bertindak sebagai co-produser bersama sutradara David Gregory. Documenter ini mewawancarai tokoh-tokoh dari keluarga seperti Clift Sangra (suami) dan Kiki Maria (putri), penata make-up alm Dindin Syamsudin, produser legendaris Gope Samtani dan Ram Soraya serta Shanker, sutradara Joko Anwar, hingga kritikus film Hikmat Darmawan dan akademisi film seperti Quirine van Heeren dan Thomas Barker.

In the 2020s, there is a second wave regarding the global re-distribution of classic Indonesian exploitation films. Some of the titles are “Special Silencers” (“Serbuan Halilintar”, 1982, Mondo Macabro), “Santet” 1 & 2 (1988, 1989, Vinegar Syndrome) as well as “Srigala” & “Escape from Hellhole” (Kawin Kontrak, 1983) both by Terror Vision; and more titles to come.

We invite Pete Tombs, co-founder of Mondo Macabro DVD that re-distributed films such as “Lady Terminator” and “The Warrior” (Jaka Sembung) in the 2000s and the 2010s, to discuss this phenomenon. We also invite Dr. Iain Robert Smith (senior lecturer at King’s College London) to analyze the global contexts of the phenomenon, particularly remakesploitation, and the comparison with other countries such as Turkey and the Philippines.
Ekky Imanjaya PhD (Film Department, Binus University) will host the webinar.
This webinar is a must-attend for anyone interested in film studies, particularly transnational cinema, and Indonesian cinema, offering valuable insights into these resurgent study fields.
"The Real Guilty Pleasures": Antara Etika dan Estetika, dan (a)moralisme.
Pada hari Jumat (22 Maret lalu), sebanyak 200-an peserta mendiskusikan buku ”The Real Guilty Pleasures: Menimbangulang Sinema Eksploitasi Transnasional Orde Baru” Ekky Imanjaya, dosen tetap di prodi Film, Binus University. Sebagai pembahas di webinar itu, diundang Gorivana Ageza, dosen Universitas Katolik Parahyangan Bandung. Sedangkan jalannya diskusi dimoderatori oleh Shadia Pradsmadji, dosen film Binus University yang juga penerjemah bukunya.
Sebagai dosen yang memegang gelar Master di bidang Filsafat dan Kajian Film, Echa, panggilan Gorivana, mengulas buku terjemahan dari disertasi S3 tersebut dari perspektif etika dan estetika. Ini adalah pendekatan yang berbeda dari diskusi dan ulasan buku sebelumnya. Di antara yang dibahas adalah terkait madzhab moralisme dan amoralisme dalam memandang sebuah karya seni. Baginya, estetika dan etika mesti dipisah.
